In 1899, Saskatoon was little more than a few wooden houses and false-fronted shops. There were no bridges, no railways, not even an elevator rising above the rooftops. There was no reason to think Saskatoon would be more successful in the long run than any other prairie town. Saskatoon not only survived, it thrived.
